Dr. Dagny Zhu, MD, is a Harvard-educated, board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. As one of the few female refractive eye surgeons in the country as well as the youngest practice owner in the history of NVISION Eye Centers, Dr. Zhu has quickly grown her reputation as a top LASIK and cataract surgeon and key opinion leader in the field, giving invited lectures worldwide, contributing to webinars and podcasts, and leading clinical research on eye surgery innovations. She has also garnered a large social media presence as a health educator battling misinformation, championing for working women, and mentoring aspiring students in healthcare with over 50,000 followers on Instagram
Like many Asian Americans, Dr. Zhu came from humble beginnings, immigrating to the United States with her working-class family at the age of 3. Raised by a single mom who worked nights and weekends as a waitress in Chinese restaurants, Dr. Zhu devoted her time to mastering her studies, becoming high school valedictorian and recipient of a full-tuition Regents scholarship to UCLA, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in molecular, cell, and developmental biology. She then went on to graduate from Harvard Medical School where she found her passion for eye surgery. Despite her professional success as an eye surgeon, Dr. Zhu continues to give back to her community through volunteering, teaching, mentorship, and advocacy. In 2020, while pregnant with her first child, she led a group of Asian American doctors to create a viral video condemning racism and xenophobia against Asian Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic. The video was featured nationally and internationally by multiple outlets including CNN, NBCNews, Huffington Post, Yahoo News, Good Morning America, and NextShark and was used as an opportunity to highlight non-profits serving Asian American communities. To combat the PPE shortage at the peak of the outbreak, Dr. Zhu also used her extensive network to help source FDA-certified mask suppliers from overseas for U.S. hospitals and clinics. Dr. Zhu is proud to serve her community and hopes to collaborate on future projects with likeminded, passionate members of the Asian Hustle Network!
