Singapore-based Chinese influencer and Instagram model, Yuqing Irene Zhao listed her non-fungible tokens (NFT) earning her millions within 10 days.
The IreneDAO collection is listed on Opensea, a peer-to-peer marketplace for NFTs, rare digital items, and crypto collectibles. It garnered purchases from prominent individuals like Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz and YouTuber Logan Paul.
Her listing description on Opensea notes, “IreneDAO is a global grassroots movement aimed at disrupting the creator economy. IreneDAO is for the people, by the people. Our core values are Sincerity, Integrity, Meaning, and Purpose.”
Zhao’s collection consists of images of her and meme slang phrases such as “Damp It,” “Up Only,” “Simp” or “Wen Moon.”
Reports noted that Zhao’s NFT journey began with her selling the images as a sticker pack on Telegram until a fan advised her to turn the collection into NFTs.
In a Twitter thread on January 20, Irene Zhao stated that her collection is “not a fluke” or “Asian Fetish”, adding that having over 300,000 followers on Instagram and being amongst the top 10 influencers in Singapore is not enough to do well.
She explained that NFT is the medium that makes the new Web3.0 economy possible, as it makes the creators truly own their contents, and the users buy a share and invest in that ownership
.In total, Zhao’s collection has a trading volume of 2,300 Ethereum, which is equivalent to approximately S$7.5 million 0r $5 million USD.
