Hall of Fame Boxer Floyd Mayweather Will Take On Japanese MMA Fighter Mikuru Asakura in Rizin Exhibition Bout

Former welterweight world champion and Hall of Fame boxer Floyd Mayweather is returning to Japan this September for his next exhibition boxing bout, and this time he will be taking on a mixed martial arts fighter.

Featherweight MMA star Mikuru Asakura, said he intends to use this opportunity to raise his name and his value internationally.

The 29-year-old fighter has previously held the title of champion in the Fighting Network Rings at both 143 and 154 pounds. Has been competing on a professional level since 2012, and has also competed for Road Fighting Championship, Fighting Network Rings, and DEEP. In addition to his career in mixed martial arts, he is also a well-known Youtuber in Japan.

It will be Mayweather’s fourth exhibition and his second in Japan, after beating kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa by TKO in just two minutes in December 2018, in a bout that was widely ridiculed.

“I may not let him land one punch, it’s all up to me, it’s all on what I want to do,” Mayweather said, describing himself as “the puppet-master”, “We’re going to treat him nice, we’re going to let him go three rounds, we’re going to let him try to land his shot,”

The date, venue, and rules of the fight will be announced later this month Rizin Fighting Federation.
