Founded by Filipino-American Faith Bautista, ChimeTV, America’s first English-language Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Entertainment TV Network, officially launched on Lunar New Year.
Faith grew up without a TV. She first watched TV through her neighbor’s window at eight years old. Five decades later, she becomes the first Asian American woman to have owned and run a television network.
Faith pledged to work hard to help the AAPI creative community get into the industry because Asians, especially Asian women, are underrepresented and often misrepresented in movies, TV, and on screen.
She believes that the more Americans see people who look different, the sooner society will naturally become more inclusive.
In a press release, ChimeTV, which stands for “Creating History In Media Entertainment,” said it will offer “modern general entertainment programming – over 70% of which is new to US TV audiences – including dramas, comedy, procedurals, food, travel, lifestyle, wellness, news, mixed martial arts, and digital creator content.”
In 41 states, ChimeTV will be available on channel 147 in New York, Los Angeles, and other Spectrum cities. WatchChimeTV.com will start charging for ChimeTV on March 1. Smart TVs, cellphones, tablets, desktops, and laptops will also support it.
