Grade 12 Grad to 6-Figure Success: The Young Entrepreneur Behind A Thriving Accessories Business

Young Filipino entrepreneur Kyla Cañete’s interest in accessories was sparked by her mother, who has a business in bags and accessories. She grew up with a love for fashion and the little touches that can elevate an outfit. However, it wasn’t until the summer of 2018 that Kyla took the leap and turned her passion into a business venture, “Tala by Kyla” was born.

Like any entrepreneurial journey, Kyla’s path was not without its obstacles. She started as a one-woman team who handled everything from managing, packing, marketing, advertising, and delivering her products to customers. There were times when she only received one or two orders per day.

Despite these setbacks, Kyla persevered and found her breakthrough by releasing themed jewelry collections. She drew inspiration from anime, pop culture, TV shows, K-pop and Filipino pop bands, and songs to create unique designs that resonated with her audience.

These collections proved to be a hit, and soon, Tala by Kyla began receiving an influx of orders. Some of Kyla’s collections also include profession-themed pendants and zodiac signs.

Starting with only $400 in 2018, she is now earning over $20,000 monthly as she expanded her reach to an international level, selling between 50,000 and 100,000 pieces every month, with the help of her five international distributors.

For Kyla, creating her own line of accessories was more than just a business opportunity. It was a way for her to express her creativity and share her vision with the world. She wanted to create something that would allow people to add a personal touch to their outfits and make a statement about who they are.

As Kyla puts it, each collection was made with inspiration and produced to help her customers tell their own stories, which is the essence of her brand’s tagline: “Wear Your Story.”
