Nguyen Coffee Supply Secures $2.6M Funding to Foster Vietnamese Robusta

Nguyen Coffee Supply is paving the way for the next wave of beverage culture with Vietnamese coffee.

The seed round funds will be used to further the company’s aim of promoting economic growth for Vietnamese farmers through specialty coffee production while also fostering a varied and inclusive coffee culture.

Sahra Nguyen, a first-generation entrepreneur-activist who is also a Gold House Collective Founder for the Spring 2020 cohort, a prominent network to honor and advance the Asian American community, started Nguyen Coffee Supply in 2018.

The coffee brand is America’s leading authority on Vietnamese coffee culture, importing through direct trade partnerships and roasting in Brooklyn, New York, and is accessible in restaurants and cafés around the country, including New York City, Washington, D.C., Seattle, Kansas City, and others.

Their coffee can be enjoyed in a wide array of styles—including the traditional ‘cà phê sữa đá’ (Vietnamese coffee with sweetened condensed milk & ice)  as well as the pour-over, Chemex, french press, drip, espresso, and more.

It also ships to customers in all 50 states and internationally to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Singapore, UK.

Despite the fact that Vietnam is the world’s second-largest coffee producer and the world’s leading producer of robusta beans, the country has yet to make a significant contribution to specialty coffee culture, a $25 billion industry in the United States.

Its robusta bean, until recently less accessible in the U.S. than arabica, is expected to achieve prominence and consumer popularity in 2022, according to The New York Times.

Aside from being a lesser-known yet delicious brew, robusta’s farming practices are more sustainable and utilize fewer pesticides. Its beans are lower in fats and sugars and have a higher caffeine concentration.
