Eleven countries are competing for the gold in the 31st Southeast Asian Games from May 12th to 23rd in Vietnam, with the theme “For a Stronger South East Asia”.
Originally scheduled for November-December 2021, but was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Around 10,000 athletes from 40 sports competed in 526 events
With 154 gold medals (as of May 20), Vietnam has dominated the ongoing biennial multi-sport event, exceeding its initial target of winning 140-150 at the event. 62 gold medals were awarded to Thailand in second place, followed by Singapore with 44 gold medals.
Vietnamese football player, Hung Dung Do, takes the top spot for the most favorite athlete in the event. Bronze medalist, Pramudya Kusumawardana Riyanto, from Indonesia ranks second, while basketball player, Vy Truong Thao, of Vietnam is the third crowd’s favorite.
The SEA Games 31 opening ceremony was held at Hanoi’s Mỹ Đình National Stadium. While Hanoi is the main hub for the competition, 11 other nearby regions will also host events.
The competition is under the regulation of the Southeast Asian Games Federation with supervision by the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia.
